NABTC Mourns the Loss of Senator Edward M. Kennedy
August 31, 2009
The North American Brain Tumor Coalition (NABTC) mourns the loss of Senator Edward M. Kennedy, a champion for access to health care for all Americans. Senator Kennedy was a tireless friend to the NABTC and all Americans fighting for better health care. He fiercely and ceaselessly championed more biomedical research funding, a rejuvenated war on cancer, incentives for pediatric cancer therapeutic development, and universal access to health insurance.
The NABTC, a coalition of brain tumor organizations dedicated to better brain tumor treatments and enhanced health care quality, enjoyed encouragement and support from Senator Kennedy beginning in the mid-1990s, when the Coalition began its collaborative advocacy efforts on behalf of individuals with brain tumors and their families, friends, and caregivers.
Senator Kennedy confronted his diagnosis with a brain tumor with grace, dignity, and strength, the same qualities he displayed in a half-century of service in the United States Senate. Americans struggling to live with serious and life-threatening illnesses lost a dear friend with Senator Kennedy’s death.
Advocates in the North American Brain Tumor Coalition dedicate themselves to Senator Kennedy’s fight for better health care for all and for hope for those facing daunting challenges.
