What Members Do For the Brain Tumor Community

NABTC member organizations are involved in many different activities in addition to advocacy, and you are invited to contact the individual organizations for their specifics (listed below on this page). Member organizations are active in the following areas:

Research

Member organizations fund millions of dollars yearly in brain tumor research, and many of them are involved in The Brain Tumor Funders’ Collaborative. While the primary source of brain tumor research funding is the National Institutes of Health and the pharmaceutical industry, private not-for-profit funders also contribute substantial amounts of money. NABTC members contribute approximately 17% of all such private funding.

Support

Member organizations provide countless support services to patients and families, support groups for survivorship and bereavement, individualized telephone and direct patient support, and financial help.

Events

Member organizations sponsor brain tumor events, forums, teleconferences, webcasts, information hotlines, caregiver trainings, and camp experiences.

Education and Publishing

Member organizations disseminate educational materials about brain tumors and treatment, brain tumor centers, care giving, survivor stories, and the latest brain tumor clinical trials. They publish on-line and printed newsletters.

Forums

Member organizations convene forums for basic brain tumor researchers to facilitate communication and collaboration among the researchers.

Mentorship

Member organizations provide advice to new support group leaders and new not-for-profit organizations.
